Would you feel happy if you'd receive a cake from the government(for free, of course) but lots of your countrymen are starving?
In our country, lots of families would feel happy to have dried fish/sardines and rice served on their dining table. And that's sad because eating those can't suffice the nutrients needed by our bodies. Worst, those could also be the reason for sickness. Malnutrition's so common here in the Philippines and that really sucks. It goes with poverty and corruption. To those people who are so choosy when it comes to food, hi! Why don't you just be thankful and don't nag about the simple dish that your mom prepared? Don't you feel guilty everytime you waste food? I really feel sad whenever I see people (especially children) searching for food in the garbage cans. How I wish I was born rich (like the ones who buy shirts worth fifteen thousand each) so I can help the needy. I know, I can help them in other ways like praying for them but seeing them happy because of what you've given is really something. But prayers are totally more than that something moreover, more than anything. (sounds redundant, k)
Remember the first sentence in this post? The mayor sent a cake for my father. My father is one of the board members in the homeowners' association we're in. Every officer of each homeowners' association in Pasig City receives a cake for his/her birthday, I presume. In every homeowners' association, I think there are 10-14 officers. Imagine the number of homeowners' associations in a baranggay. I don't know how many baranggays are here in Pasig. Imagine the number of cakes wasted (I don't even know if it's right to use this term) or given away every year. Cakes like the one sent by the mayor cost around three hundred fifty pesos to five hundred pesos. It's not that I'm refusing the blessing but why not instead of sending away cakes to the officers of homeowners' associations, buy stuff for the underprivileged! Food, potable water, clothes and shelter are some of our basic needs and we all know how important these things are. These are more important than a cake. We can live without a cake but without the things I said, imagine life.
I hope you guys get my point. //paalam
